A bilty (also written builty) is the receipt a goods transport company or adda gives when it accepts goods to carry. It proves the goods were handed over, says where they are going and who will receive them, and records the freight.
What a bilty records
- Bilty number and date
- From and to (cities or stations)
- Sender: name, mobile, CNIC
- Receiver: name and mobile
- Goods description, number of packages (nag) and weight
- Declared value, if any
- Freight and loading charges
- Who pays the freight
Paid, to-pay or on account
- Paid: the sender pays the freight at booking.
- To-pay: the receiver pays when collecting the goods.
- On account: regular customers pay monthly from a statement.
Some bilties also carry COD: the adda collects the value of the goods from the receiver and later pays it to the sender.
Before you hand over goods
Count the packages with the clerk, check the receiver's mobile number, and keep your copy. Photos of the packages help if anything is damaged.
Collecting goods
The receiver brings the bilty number and their CNIC. They pay any to-pay freight and COD, sign, and take the goods.
Munshi's transport and bilty software books bilties with all of the above, prints two copies, loads goods on a trip, tells the receiver on WhatsApp when they arrive, and keeps track of COD owed to senders.
