Medical store app in Pakistan: what it should do

A medical store is not a kiryana with medicines in it. The same Panadol comes in three batches with three expiry dates, a customer asks for "something for acidity" by formula, and half the sales are a strip, not a box. Generic billing apps miss most of this. Here is what a medical store app should do.

Must-haves

• Batch and expiry on every box. When you buy, the app asks the batch and expiry. When you sell, it sells the oldest batch first.
• Expiry alerts. A list of what expires in the next 30, 60 and 90 days, so you can return it to the distributor in time.
• Search by formula. Type "omeprazole" and see every brand you have, with stock and price. This is how you serve a customer whose brand is finished.
• Sell by box, strip or tablet. One item, three units, and stock counts correctly whichever way you sell.
• Fast search at the counter. The name, a few letters, or the barcode.
• Distributor accounts. What you owe each distributor and what you have returned to them.

Good to have

• Udhaar for regular customers and nearby clinics, with WhatsApp reminders.
• FBR invoices if your store is a Tier-1 retailer.
• Works offline for when the internet is down at the counter.
• Works on a phone, so you can check stock and the day's sale from home.

Questions to ask

• Can I import my medicine list, or must I type 3,000 items?
• What happens when a strip is sold from a box: does the box stock change?
• Can my counter boy sell without seeing my profit?
